SHOREHAM NUCLEAR POWER PLANT PRESS CONFERENCE - JUNE 1983

As part of WUSB's continuing coverage of the Shoreham nuclear power plant's troubled history and the efforts of the community to keep it from opening, we were able to get unprecedented access. On the eve of yet another anti-Shoreham demonstration on June 3, 1983, we invited ourselves as members of the media to attend a press conference inside the plant itself! We heard from Long Island Lighting Company spokesperson Jan Hickman, as well as chief operating officer Jack Notaro, associate director of information Darrell Lankford, and members of the Suffolk County Police Department. We also learned of a union protest that was taking place, just to make the events of the next couple of days a bit more entertaining. This is a great look at the other side of these actions and how people in authority plan for them.
