As part of our continuing foray into the digital publishing world, we've made the last year of 2600 available in two of the most popular ebook formats, with more to come.
"The Hacker Digest" is a compendium of articles from Volume 26 of 2600 Magazine, rearranged in book form and totaling nearly 300 pages of material.
The Kindle version is great for anyone who wants the text of all of the articles sent directly to their Kindle device for easy and legible reading. The Nook version is also available for those of you with one of those devices.
The PDF version contains all of the graphics, along with enhanced cover pages, a full payphone photo spread in the middle, and a collection of all of the back cover photos.
We're doing all of this in a quest to see if this is the kind of thing people want. If so, Volume 27 will come out in the first half of 2011.
Let us point out that all of this material is being released completely DRM-free. That means it's yours to do with as you wish without restrictions. However, there's an important fact to consider. As this has taken a lot of time and effort on the part of a good number of people, the project needs to pay for itself. We think it's well worth the low cost - please resist the urge to copy from a friend or stranger and buy your own copy as this is what will make future endeavors possible. Plus, you will never have a better opportunity to prove all of the DRM proponents wrong. If we do well on this, after removing all copying restrictions, it's going to prove that the quality of the material, not the technological restrictions placed upon it, is what determines its overall success. You've helped us to prove this in the paper world for the past quarter century. Now let's see if it holds true in the digital world.
