||HOTEL PENN THREATENED WITH DEMOLITION - HOPE CONFERENCES IN JEOPARDY|
We received this disturbing news earlier in the month. Apparently the realty company that owns the Hotel Pennsylvania, site of our HOPE conferences, wants to tear down the historic hotel and replace it with a huge financial tower. Such a move could spell the end of HOPE.
||'OFF THE HOOK' RAISES OVER $11,000 IN A SINGLE HOUR|
We set all kinds of records at WBAI on January 31st with the help of our listeners. Over $11,000 was raised for the radio station in a single hour which is the best we've done in the entire history of the program. Many of the callers were taking advantage of the special HOPE Number Six DVD sets, which were donated to the station by 2600. While you can't still get these sets through the station, you can still make a pledge to the station by calling +1 212 209 2950 and selecting something else that they have available or by visiting the WBAI website. We want to thank the many listeners who helped us achieve a goal we never even anticipated.

||UPDATE: ANOTHER VICTORY IN THE FIGHT TO SAVE HOTEL PENN|
The full membership of Community Board 5 in New York City has now officially voted to recommend landmark status for the Hotel Pennsylvania by a vote of 21 to 8. This follows the previous week's vote by a subcommittee to bring the issue to the full board. We had a very good turnout that included HOPE attendees and members of the hotel staff. We were also able to read selected comments from people who sent remarks to our special email address. This is a major victory in the fight to save the hotel from demolition and we want to thank everyone who participated. But these are still the early days of the battle to save the hotel. As we move on to the next step, we will be posting updates here. Please stay updated by visiting the official "Save the Hotel site" and participating in our online forum. You can also continue to send mail to us with your reasons why the hotel should be saved to firstname.lastname@example.org.
