After nearly 50 years of broadcasting countercultural, rebellious, and alternative programming, New York radio station WBAI (broadcaster of "Off The Hook") will change its format in April to reflect the continuing changes in the radio listening audience. An anonymous station spokesperson, quoted in Radio World, said, "For decades the station has focused on issues of war and peace with a mixed audience response. It turns out that it was the peace part that was dragging the ratings down. It's not what the listeners of today want. So we're going to be tweaking the peace, resistance, and pacifist stuff to focus more on war, allegiance, and patriotic slogans." The station insists that the new "war and more war" format as it's being called is not going to focus primarily on war, just mostly on war. There will still be spots open for programs that focus on alternatives to war, such as mass starvation or nuclear annihilation. "The point we have to remember is that Americans have tried the peace approach and have found it's not relevant to their lifestyles. We need to adapt to this."
"Off The Hook" will continue to be aired on WBAI. Our format, however, will now focus exclusively on hacking as a form of warfare.
