2600 IRC NETWORK RETURNS
Posted 9 Dec 2001 09:56:10 UTC

The 2600 IRC network (irc.2600.net) is back online after nearly a month's absence. Users can now connect their IRC clients to port 6667 of irc.2600.net (most clients will do this by default).

We discontinued the last server because of security issues and overall lack of structure. We've assembled a team dedicated to keeping the new and improved network up and running. We have a number of new features, more capacity, and a strong desire to keep expanding in the future.

The 2600 IRC network is unique in that it brings people interested in 2600 together from all corners of the world. We have channels set up for every state and country where 2600 people could possibly be. If you want to talk to people from a certain state - California as an example - just enter channel #ca2600 (CA is the two letter abbreviation for California). If you want to visit a channel for a country, simply do the reverse and add the two letter Internet country code *after* the 2600. For instance, the Canada 2600 channel is #2600ca.

As we're just beginning to rebuild the network, it will probably take a while before people start to populate the 2600 channels you're interested in. Spread the word and soon you will be able to visit with 2600 people everywhere.

Users are also encouraged to start non-2600 channels for whatever communication purposes they desire.

Feedback is welcome at ircadmins@2600.com.
