Rep. Major Owens (D-NY) plans to bring up Monday's actions at WBAI in front of the House of Representatives either today or tomorrow.
Owens, along with program host Ken Nash, was forcibly taken off the airwaves by Interim Station Manager Utrice Leid when the subject matter turned to the present operation of the radio station and the ongoing controversy at the Pacifica Foundation, which holds WBAI's license.
An article in Wednesday's NEWSDAY quotes Owens referring to the current WBAI management as resembling "some totalitarian country where some great minister of information was dispensing the truth."
Owens also said that nobody ever called him to explain why he had been taken off the air while participating in a telephone interview. "I had to turn the radio on to hear what was going on."
He became so incensed that he promised to take the matter to the floor of the House of Representatives on either Wednesday or Thursday. C-SPAN coverage begins at 10 am ET.
