DECSS APPEAL HEARING TUESDAY
Posted 28 Apr 2001 03:04:22 UTC

On Tuesday, May 1st, while May Day is being celebrated in various ways around the world, we will be in court fighting for our freedom to link to and publish DeCSS. Stanford Law School dean, and remarkable constitutional scholar, Kathleen Sullivan will be arguing our case before Judges Newman, Cabranes, and Thompson, a visiting judge from the District Court of Connecticut.

Everyone is encouraged to attend. The hearing will be held at the 2nd Circuit courthouse in New York, 40 Centre Street (tall 30-story classic building with a gold pyramid on top), in the fifth floor ceremonial courtroom at 10 AM. We do not know yet the order in which our case will be heard, or exactly how long we will have to present it. The way it works in these cases is that each side gets 20 minutes to argue their case. However, judges can interrupt with questions and it's hard to say precisely how much time it will take. In addition to the MPAA, the U.S. Department of Justice is also going to be arguing in support of the DMCA and they get 10 additional minutes for that.
