The 2600 "Freedom Downtime" Easter Egg Hunt is now underway. When the "Freedom Downtime" DVD was released last year, it contained more Easter Eggs than any other DVD ever released in the history of mankind. (We believe this to be an indisputable fact.) And while we want to tell the world where they all are, we thought it would be fun to make a small challenge before we do.
So these are the rules. Anything on the DVDs that is deliberately hidden in some way so that you get a little thrill when you discover it is most likely an Easter Egg. When you find one of these, add it to the list and tell us what must be done in order to find it. (A simple list of Easter Eggs is NOT enough.)
It's quite possible that some Easter Eggs don't require you to hit any buttons (in fact we can say it's pretty likely) but still convey a hidden message of some sort. Maybe a secret message is spelled out by taking the first letter of every word spoken by Kevin Mitnick in the film. (Not likely since we used this as an example.) Anything is possible and there is no penalty for including an Easter Egg that doesn't exist.
You can enter as many times as you like. We'll be judging entries solely on the number of correct Easter Egg identifications and thoroughness of what must be done to get to them. All entries must be sent through snail mail and not over the net. All entries must be postmarked by September 1, 2005. The winner will be announced in the Fall 2005 issue of 2600.
The winner (and there will only be one) will receive: a lifetime subscription to 2600, all back issues of 2600, one item of every piece of clothing we sell, an "Off The Hook" DVD with more possible Easter Eggs, another "Freedom Downtime" DVD to replace the one you will probably wear out looking to win this contest, and two tickets to the next HOPE conference, currently scheduled for Summer 2006 in New York City.
Submit entries to: Easter Egg Hunt, c/o 2600, PO Box 752, Middle Island, NY 11953 USA. Don't have the DVD? Visit our online store!
