The second book by hacker Kevin Mitnick has been released. The Art of Intrusion conveys to its readers actual attacks
as they were performed by individuals who came forth to share their
stories.
This latest release sheds light upon insecurities as
they existed in various types of real life systems. Reverse engineering,
software exploits, social engineering, and various other methods
commonly used by hackers for gaining access to sensitive data are
described in a style that can be easily understood by typical users
without omitting the details of interest to the tech savvy. In a
format familiar to those who have read The Art of Deception,
Mitnick's previous book, all of the stories are appended with
countermeasures intended to help the reader understand ways in
which to defend against the attacks described. Acting as an excellent
complement to Deception's fictional accounts of social engineering,
The Art of Intrusion displaces
any doubt in the reader's mind that these types of attacks can and
do happen to those not prepared to deal with the increasing threat.
This book most certainly is a rare thriller of interest to those
with any level of technical experience; everyone will have something
to learn from the accounts as told from the point of view of those
behind the attacks.
Mitnick will be appearing on "Off The Hook on Wednesday, March 23.
