We're pleased to say that the New York City 2600 meetings appear to be back to some semblance of normalcy. This doesn't mean that they're not still a victim of the craziness sweeping the land but at least we're not literally out in the street.
The policy of asking for identification to get into the public space at the Citigroup building (otherwise known as the atrium) has been shelved. We had vehemently opposed this policy as we have never made someone's true identity a prerequisite to their participation in any of our projects. We're pleased that this won't be turning into yet another battle for our rights. Attendees can however expect to place their bags in an x-ray machine for scanning. We know of no instances where anyone's bag was actually gone through.
While everyone involved seems to agree that the whole thing is a bit silly, we can at least continue to attend the meetings without our identities being handed over to the authorities. Of course there are still cameras everywhere...
