We see more and more evidence in the media of hacking being equated with real-life crime. But this latest one really boggles the imagination.
On Thursday the web page of Hamas (the militant Palestinian group) was routed to a pornography site. There are many ways such a thing could have happened but that is not relevant here.
The amazing thing is that ABC News claimed that this "attack" was thought to be a "retaliation" for a suicide bombing that killed three people!
Retaliation? Doesn't that mean returning "like for like?" Are we now to believe that an act of electronic mischief carries the same weight as an actual bombing? Based on such media coverage and recent acts of legislation around the world, we might as well get used to such distortions.
