Ironically, that development is overshadowed by a very immediate threat to 2600, the hacker community, and people who value freedom everywhere. |

FATHER AND SON ARRESTED
Norwegian teenager Jon Johansen has been raided because of his alleged involvment in reverse engineering CSS. Whether or not the reverse engineering was "improper" under Norwegian criminal law was the subject of much debate at the DVD CCA's January 18th court hearing in San Jose, California. |

KEVIN FREE
For the past five years, Kevin Mitnick has been imprisoned. That means he
hasn't been able to do a lot of things we all take for granted. He hasn't
seen a movie, listened to a CD, read books and magazines... the list goes
on into infinity. Now, Kevin is free, although still facing a huge amount
of restrictions. He cannot use a computer, a cellular phone, and many
other forms of technology. He isn't even allowed to go on a speaking
tour to tell his story, since that would involve "profiting from his
crimes." |

This time they want to outlaw any LINKS to the DeCSS code. If they succeed in doing this, we will LIST the sites that have the source code instead. If they manage to outlaw lists, we promise to think of something else. Suggestions are welcome. |
