||MORE LOST SHOWS UNCOVERED|
We're happy to announce that we've found some more radio shows that were either lost or previously unknown. Many thanks to listeners who continue to help us find programs that are not in our archives.
||HIGH-FIDELITY MP3 FILES OF "OFF THE HOOK" AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD|
When we started making our weekly radio program "Off the Hook"
available on the Internet, we used Real Audio and were pretty impressed
that we could get it to work at all. Later, we switched to the more open
and better-sounding MP3 format, at 16kb/second, and the popularity of this format
grew to the point that we no longer needed to offer the Real Audio
files. However, with the widespread availability of broadband Internet
connections, our listeners have been clamoring for higher-fidelity
||WINTER ISSUE OF 2600 RELEASED|
The Winter 2005-2006 issue of 2600 is now officially out. You should be seeing it pop up at stores all throughout the world. (If you know of a store that has it that's not on our list or if a store on our list is incorrect, please let us know by emailing the webmaster.) And if you're a subscriber, it should either be in your hands by now or moving ever closer. More details on the issue are available here.
||NEW "OFF THE HOOK" DVD-R RELEASED|
The new "Off The Hook" DVD-Rs are finished. They contain every known edition of the show from October 1988 through December 2005, as well as other programs that were precursors to "Off The Hook" on WBAI including "The Fifth Corner" which aired in the early 1990s. Since last year's release we've also added some previously lost programs and reencoded the whole thing to make it all sound better. The show details have also been fixed up since the last release. It all fits onto two DVDs and weighs in at over 700 hours of audio for a mere $30.
||HOPE PRE-REGISTRATION, CFP, WIKI ONLINE|
We are now officially soliciting ideas for speakers and panels at HOPE Number Six, to be held at the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York City on July 21, 22, and 23. To see how you can participate, visit the CFP section of the HOPE site. We've also opened pre-registration for the conference at our online store. Registering now gives us both an idea of what kind of crowd to expect and the funds needed to make it all happen. Plus it will cost more at the door this year!
We now have a high fidelity version of "Off the Wall" to match our recently launched "Off the Hook" hifi podcast.
||FULL "FREEDOM DOWNTIME" EASTER EGG LIST RELEASED|
At long last we are revealing every last one of the many Easter Eggs found in the 2004 DVD release of our documentary "Freedom Downtime." We printed a good number of these in the Winter issue but we couldn't fit them all on one page. So, for your enjoyment and education, the entire list can be found right here.
To get your own DVD and play with the Easter Eggs (and maybe even see the film while you're at it), visit our online store.
||2600 STORE NOW ACCEPTS PAYPAL|
We've added PayPal as an acceptable payment method for our online store. ||CUBA TRAVEL JOURNAL ONLINE|
Over the past week, Emmanuel and Mike from "Off The Hook" traveled to Cuba to report on the technology there. As American citizens are forbidden from going to this country by the U.S. government, this is a rare opportunity to see what it's all like from a technological and hacker perspective. (Reporters are exempt from this restriction.)
||AN INVITATION TO ALL 2600 MEETINGS|
We're less than two months away from HOPE Number Six (July 21, 22, 23, 2006) and we'd like to get a record amount of participation from 2600 meetings all around the world.
||SOME TRAVEL TIPS FOR HOPE ATTENDEES|
Do you want more than anything in the world to be able to make it to this year's HOPE conference but are worried that you won't be able to afford the airfare? We've compiled a handy reference guide with all sorts of valuable information over at the HOPE blog. You can even share your own experiences and ask questions.
||HOPE NETWORK TO BE BIGGEST EVER |
We're happy to announce that the connectivity at this year's HOPE conference will be the fastest we've ever had - and likely the fastest of any hacker conference ever in the States. Our network team has been hard at work making all of this possible. We have been assured of connectivity equivalent to an OC3 connection for the entire weekend. That's more than 30 times what we had for The Fifth HOPE! This will make all sorts of projects possible as well as make it much simpler for HOPE attendees to stay connected.
||VENDOR TABLES NOW AVAILABLE AT HOPE CONFERENCE|
We're making available a number of tables for folks who want to be able to display or sell their wares at HOPE Number Six. These tables will be located in a highly-trafficked area of the second floor. We hope that a variety of groups will be able to take advantage of this opportunity to reach our attendees, and that our attendees will be able to see some neat products they might not otherwise get to know about.
||HOPE RIDE BOARD NOW UP AND RUNNING|
Are you looking for a way to get to HOPE this summer? We've just launched our HOPE Ride Board on the HOPE Wiki. Using it is very simple - just look for people in your state or province to share rides with. If your location is empty, be the first to fill it in with your details. It's a great way to save money, meet people, and make the ride go a lot faster.
||2600 MOUSEPADS NOW AVAILABLE|
The long-awaited 2600 mousepads are now available on our online store. They have the same design as our 2600 sweatshirts! That's right, they're round mousepads that look like a government seal.
It's a really cool thing to have sitting by your computer.
It's the perfect gift.
It's a really cruel joke to leave one at someone's workstation when you know their boss wouldn't approve.
The possibilities are limitless.

||FINAL HOPE NUMBER SIX PANEL SCHEDULED AT LAST|
We said we'd do it and we meant it. When the Steve Rambam talk at HOPE Number Six was disrupted by his arrest minutes before he was scheduled to go on stage, we vowed to make sure it would one day be presented to the public. That day has now been set and we trust that the FBI won't interfere this time.
On Thursday, November 16, HOPE Number Six will finally end with the presentation: "Privacy is Dead - Get Over It" featuring Steve's revealing look at how much information on each of us is readily accessible to virtually anyone. As part of the talk, Steve will reveal all of the information he was able to find on a volunteer "victim." In addition, he will answer all sorts of questions from the audience, including what really happened back in July.
Admission to this talk is totally free. It's our way of saying thanks to the HOPE attendees and also a demonstration of the fact that our speakers will not be silenced, no matter what adversity they may have to face.
The talk will take place from 6 to 9 pm at the Stevens Institute in Hoboken, New Jersey. There's no need to panic - this location is very easily accessible from New York City and many other places. Full details are available here.
You may think you witnessed the conclusion of HOPE Number Six. But until this final talk is given, HOPE is not over.
||SPECIAL HALLOWEEN RADIO BROADCAST TUESDAY|
We'll be rebroadcasting a classic from the radio archives on Tuesday in place of "Off The Wall." Starting at 5 pm (one hour earlier than normal), a radio play entitled "Shadow Over Long Island" will be presented. This play is a real time production which follows the tradition of the "War of the Worlds" broadcast many years ago in which a somewhat believable scenario is presented to the public, leaving many to wonder whether or not they're listening to reality or to fiction. In this case, "Shadow Over Long Island" deals with an accident at a nuclear power plant on Long Island and the resulting chaos that ensues. At the time of the original broadcast in 1985, nuclear safety was a very controversial topic in the area as a plant was set to open in the vicinity. Since then the plant has been shut down after widespread public opposition. This radio play was written by Emmanuel Goldstein/Eric Corley in the height of the controversy and has been broadcast on a number of occasions on Long Island and Connecticut radio stations. This will be the first rebroadcast in at least a decade.
||'SHADOW OVER LONG ISLAND' NOW ONLINE|
The special Halloween rebroadcast of the radio play "Shadow Over Long Island" is now available online. You can find the links to the audio files here.
||ELECTION DAY RADIO NOTES|
We'd like to ask all of our listeners for two special favors this Election Day.
||FINAL HOPE TALK HELD|
Before a standing room only crowd in Hoboken, New Jersey, HOPE Number Six officially came to an end Thursday night with the presentation of Steve Rambam's talk "Privacy Is Dead - Get Over It." The original talk was scheduled for our conference in July but was postponed when Steve was arrested by the FBI mere moments before the talk was to begin. (All charges have since been dropped and a lawsuit is now being pursued against the FBI.)
||AUDIO FOR "PRIVACY IS DEAD" TALK NOW ONLINE|
We have all three hours of the audio for the recent "Privacy is Dead" talk available at the HOPE Number Six site. You can either stream it or download it, just like all the other HOPE talks.
||NEW "PRIVACY IS DEAD" DVDS AVAILABLE|
We now have DVDs of the recent "Privacy is Dead" talk given by Steven Rambam at the Stevens Institute of Technology on November 16. This talk made up for the one
which was prevented at the HOPE Number Six conference due to Rambam's arrest immediately before the scheduled talk. This is a three hour DVD set that has the entire presentation of the state of our privacy including how much information is available on each and every one of us and details on the private data that was uncovered for a selected "victim." Ordering information on this DVD set can be found here.
